The scalable design of the longitudinal DHD Duo front drive accommodates vehicles from segments B to E, including SUVs, pickups, and light buses. Its flexible architecture allows for configurations such as P1+P3, P2+P3, and range extenders, supporting electric, serial, and parallel driving modes.
Magna has recently achieved a significant milestone by securing its inaugural award for a Dedicated Hybrid Drive (DHD) Duo system with a prominent Chinese OEM, marking a strategic move in the global electrification efforts by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). The DHD Duo system by Magna stands out with its longitudinal front-drive configuration, incorporating an advanced dual e-motor and multi-speed design. This high-powered 800V system is designed to deliver an exceptionally smooth and comfortable driving experience, thereby placing Magna at the vanguard of hybrid technology innovation.
Diba Ilunga, President of Magna Powertrain, emphasized that the DHD Duo system underscores Magna’s commitment to creating superior driving experiences that are environmentally friendly. The system not only meets market demands and environmental objectives but also ensures that there is no compromise on performance or comfort.
The DHD Duo system is uniquely engineered to integrate seamlessly into both passenger and commercial vehicles without the need for structural changes, thanks to its compact and highly integrated dog clutch technology. This design provides extensive flexibility to OEMs, allowing the adaptation of the system across various vehicle models.
Part of the broader DHD Duo family, the longitudinal front drive system is scalable and caters to a range of vehicle segments from B to E, including SUVs, pickups, and light buses. It offers a flexible architecture that can switch between different configurations, such as P1+P3, P2+P3, and range extender, supporting various hybrid driving modes.
Magna identifies a crucial product gap in the market with its longitudinal front-drive, multi-speed 800V hybrid transmission and presents the DHD Duo as a versatile solution suitable for diverse global markets. Production of the DHD Duo is scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2025 at Magna’s manufacturing facility in Nanchang.
