vishayFriday, May 23, 2014:  Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today introduced the industry’s first surface-mount, four-terminal Power Metal Strip® current sensing resistors in the compact 2726 and 4026 case sizes to provide an operating temperature range to +275 °C. The Vishay Dale WSLT2726 and WSLT4026 combine their high-temperature performance with 3 W power ratings and extremely low resistance values down to 0.002 Ω.

The advanced construction of the WSLT2726 and WSLT4026 incorporates a solid metal nickel-chrome alloy resistive element with low TCR (< 20 ppm/°C). This results in high-power resistors that offer an operating temperature range of -65 °C to +275 °C while maintaining the superior electrical characteristics of the Power Metal Strip construction.

The devices’ small 2726 and 4026 case sizes and four-terminal construction allow for the design of high-power circuits featuring the smallest and most accurate resistors for high-performance end products. The high-temperature capabilities of the WSLT2726 and WSLT4026 allow for their use in harsh high-temperature environments without sacrificing power rating or electrical performance.

The resistors released today are ideal for all types of current sensing, voltage division, and pulse applications. These include switching and linear power supplies; instruments; power amplifiers; shunts in automotive electronic controls (such as engine, audio, climate, and anti-lock brake controls and electric power steering); and industrial controls (including down-hole test/measurement equipment for oil/gas well drilling).

Like all Power Metal Strip resistors, the WSLT2726 and WSLT4026 feature an all-welded construction that contributes to their superior electrical performance. A proprietary processing technique produces extremely low resistance values ranging from 0.002 Ω to 0.005 Ω and tight tolerances of 1.0 %. The resistors provide very low inductance of 0.5 ηH to 5 ηH and low thermal EMF (< 3 μV/°C), and they are available with AEC-Q200 qualification. The lead (Pb)-free, RoHS-compliant devices conform to Vishay Green standards.
