Cooper Lighting enables Carroll EMC to reduce power consumption and ensure cost efficiency as well
Objective
Carroll Electric Membership Corporation (EMC), Carrollton, Georgia (USA) wanted to change the lights of the parking area at its plant. It aimed at a one-to-one retrofit of its existing metal halide (MH) and high pressure sodium (HPS) luminaires with LEDs, as the former were really old and offered only dim lighting, because of which visibility was very low. Apart from this, the firm wanted to use energy efficient lights.
Challenge
Since those at Carroll EMC were not at all aware about what type of LED fixtures would actually help meet their requirements, they were also unsure of whom to entrust with this work.
Solution
In the end, Carroll EMC chose Cooper Lighting to install the LEDs in the parking lot as the latter had already worked with Carroll on several outdoor retrofitting assignments.
The team chose 100W-400W HPS and 1000W MH attachments along with Cooper Lighting Streetworks, Talon medium LED luminaries (146W) with OVF LED Roadway Large Cobraheads (146W). Traditional LED luminaires (58W) and the Generation Series (58W) of LED luminaires were used and free maintenance of these lights for 10 years was guaranteed. After the installation, the firm was surprised to discover that it had saved US$ 2600 annually on 28,000kWh of energy that was saved, which meant a 27 per cent reduction in load, apart from lower carbon dioxide emissions.
