MHA Lighting ensured that high quality LEDs reduced costs and carbon emissions
Objective
While preparing for the International Table Tennis Tournament at the Geoff Reed Table Tennis Center in the Jersey Islands, UK, it was found that the lighting at the centre was not upto international tournament standards.
The main aim was to light up nine table tennis halls as specified by Sport England before the games started. The other benefits required were energy efficiency and a smaller carbon footprint.
Challenge
The challenge was the urgent need to install the vast number of lights before the games started and all needed to measure upto international tournament standards, creating a good ambience and ensuring clarity when the games were telecasted on TV.
Solution
To meet the requirements, Paul Couser, MD of LED Lighting Technology Ltd, recommended MHA Lighting Ltd since the latter’s sports lighting products provide the highest quality light and would ensure a festive ambience at the table tennis centre.
MHA Lighting Ltd fixed 60 LightStar 203 LED luminaries due to which the centre cut down energy consumption by 61 per cent, saving US$ 3900 annually. This step also resulted in a reduction of eight tonnes in the carbon dioxide released.
Sport England mandated 600 lux for community competitions and 850 lux for national competitions but because of the new lighting installed, the centre managed to achieve the international level of 1000 lux. These LED sports lights have a minimum life expectancy of 66,000 hours which is equal to 21 years and this can be increased by 109,000 hours. So, the switch managed to address all the challenges.
