Graybar ensures cost savings worth US$ 146,000 for Stamford city
Objective
Stamford, which is known as the safest city in the US because of its strong economy and beautiful districts, got hit by a challenging budget in late 2010. After that, the city began looking for better and more energy efficient lighting solutions for its main traffic corridors. The main aim was to find sustainable energy lights to replace the high-pressure sodium based streetlights. This would take care of the high maintenance costs associated with the latter.
Challenges
Stamford conducted an initial evaluation and compared numerous LED fixtures. After this survey, GE’s Evolve LED Roadway Medium Cobrahead (ERMC) was selected to replace the old streetlights. As a leading distributor of electrical, communications and data networking products, and provider of related supply chain management and logistics services in the US, Graybar helped with the entire project, including phasing it over a period of two years.
Solution
More than 1500 high-pressure, sodium based streetlights were replaced with energy efficient LED lights. These LED lights are expected to reduce energy usage by 50 per cent. Also, the life of these bulbs is more than 10 years, which means that the maintenance costs for the city will come down.
With the installation of these streetlights, it is expected that the city will save more than US$ 146,000 annually. The city’s administration and its people are extremely happy with the new lighting and will soon be installing new streetlights in other areas of the city as well. The authorities have chosen Graybar for the upcoming projects too.
