High-energy capacitor
In July 2013, Vishay Intertechnology Inc. introduced a wet tantalum high-energy capacitor with a low maximum ESR down to 0.025 Ω at +25°C and 1 kHz, and the highest capacitance of any similar device in the market. Manufactured to withstand high stress and hazardous environments, HE4 features a unique case design for improved reliability and performance in military and aerospace applications. It utilises Vishay’s proven SuperTan hybrid cathode technology in combination with industry-leading anode designs to achieve its low ESR.

Ultra-wideband high linearity mixer
In July 2013, Linear Technology launched LTC5510, a high performance mixer with a very wide frequency range, extending to 6 GHz. It provides a continuous 50ohm matched input from 30 MHz to 6 GHz, while delivering outstanding linearity and gain flatness. These features enable applications to work over a wider frequency span without needing to rematch the input for different frequency bands, thereby reducing cost and simplifying design. Additionally, LTC5510’s output can reach up to 4.5 GHz, allowing the device to be used either as an up-conversion or down-conversion mixer, making it highly versatile.

Motor drivers
In July 2013, Texas Instruments (TI) expanded its automotive motor driver family with the introduction of three new devices in the DRV32xx-Q1 family, which now comprises four 3-phase, brushless, pre-FET motor drivers equipped with built-in diagnostic capabilities. The DRV3202-Q1 offers automotive system designers integrated power management and a CAN interface to help reduce board space and design complexity in safety-critical applications. DRV3203-Q1 and DRV3204-Q1 series help customers design safety-critical applications to meet ASIL-B. The three new motor drivers provide designers with highly reliable and space-saving options, helping them address the challenges of harsh conditions such as high-temperature, low-voltage start-stop and cold crank situations.

Repetitive surge protectors
In July 2013, STMicroelectronics launched the STRVS series of repetitive voltage surge-protection devices. The STRVS’ clamping voltage is constant for any load, which enhances the safety of the protected power components compared with RC (resistor-capacitor) snubber protection.
The stand-off voltage is specified as I=IRM=1 μA and Tj =25°C. Under these conditions, the device still acts as an open circuit. The breakdown voltage corresponds to the voltage from which the STRVS starts to go into the avalanche region. This parameter is specified as I=IBR=1 mA and Tj=25°C.

NuMicro 32-bit MCUs
In July 2013, Nuvoton Technology Corporation launched a new member of the NuMicro microcontroller M058S series, ARM Cortex-M0 32-bit microcontroller that is based on the successful Mini51 series. The M058S series operates at 2.5 V to 5.5 V, -40 to 85°C and features up to 55 I/Os with the functions of some pins shared, fast 12-bit A/D, 16-bit PWM, a built-in high precision RC oscillator, a 32bit multiplier, a NVIC (Nested Interrupt Control) structure, 32 KB Flash ROM, 4KB ISP ROM, and 2KB SRAM. The peripheral integrates one UART, one SPI, two I2C, four 32-bit timers, WDT, low voltage reset, and brown-out detection. The other functions cover a wide range of different products to meet customer needs, such as RF modules, industrial control, data collection devices and consumer products.

1 to 10W AC/DC power supplies
In July 2013, RECOM Electronic launched the RAC01 to RAC10 families (1 to 10 W) of AC/DC converters. The new devices accept AC input voltages down to 80V AC. Thus the wide-range 80-265V AC input or ultra-wide-range 80-305V AC input converters are compatible with all mains voltages worldwide, from the Japanese 100V AC, through the European 230V AC to the American 120/208/277V AC networks. The ultra-wide input voltage range guarantees a stable, isolated DC output even if the AC power supply varies widely, or suffers from surges or brown-outs that may occur when the voltage is supplied from a generator set.
