MEMS accelerometer
In August 2013, STMicroelectronics launched its three-axis MEMS accelerometer, the LIS344AHH, which enhances gaming, the user-interface and augmented reality experiences, as well as industrial controls and impact monitoring. It provides a large full-scale range of up to ±18 g combined with high bandwidth, low noise, and high mechanical and thermal stability.
The LIS344AHH full-scale range is user-selectable up to ±6g or ±18g. The device has a supply voltage range of 2.4 V to 3.6 V, features embedded self-tests, and is housed in a compact 4mm×4mm×1.5mm 16-lead LGA-16 package.

16-bit MCUs
In September 2013, Renesas Electronics Corporation launched the RL78/F13 and RL78/F14 16-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) that contribute to enhanced development efficiency, reduced system costs, lower system power consumption and improved functional safety features for automotive control systems. The new MCUs comprise a total of 91 products including 60 products in the RL78/F13 group and 31 products in the FL78/F14 group. The RL78/F13 MCUs are designed for use in an extensive range of automotive applications; from body control systems such as power window and side mirror controls, to automotive motor control systems such as electric water pumps and cooling fans. The RL78/F14 MCUs support the body control system applications, such as BCM (body control module) and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) controls that require especially large memory capacities.

SMD capacitors
In September 2013, Vishay Intertechnology introduced a new series of surface-mount multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCC) for safety-certified applications. These Vishay Vitramon devices are optimised for EMI and AC line filtering, and for lightning strike and voltage surge protection in power supplies, battery chargers and isolators for fax machines, telephones, modems and routers, as well as AC equipment and appliances. Offered in 2008, 2012, and 2220 case sizes with low profiles to save board space and fully conform with the latest creepage distance requirements, these capacitors are approved by IEC 60384-14:2005, third edition.

Capacitor converter
In September 2013, Linear Technology Corporation launched the LTC3255, a versatile high voltage step-down switched capacitor converter that delivers up to 50 mA of output current. The LTC3255 produces a regulated output (2.4 V to 12.5 V, adjustable) from a wide 4V to 48V input that is +60V/-52V tolerant. At no load, Burst Mode operation reduces VIN quiescent current to 16 µA, and 2:1 capacitive charge pumping extends output current capability to approximately twice the input current.

A super junction MOSFET
In August 2013, Toshiba India Pvt Ltd launched the DTMOS IV: Gen-4 super-junction 600-V MOSFET series. Using Toshiba’s single epitaxial process, the Gen-4 super-junction 600-V DTMOS IV MOSFET series provides a 30 per cent reduction in Ron·A, a figure of merit (FOM) for MOSFETs, compared to its predecessor, the DTMOS III. A reduction in Ron·A makes it possible to house lower Ron chips in the same packages. This helps to improve the efficiency and reduce the size of power supplies.
These MOSFETs have a low C oss for optimised SPS operation also at light load and Cgd and Rg that allows easy control of switching performance.
