The new policy will push domestic consumption of IT services to increase the size of the industry
Saturday, October 27, 2012: The Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) has announced that it will come out with a defined timeline and cost estimates for achieving various objectives of National Policy on Information Technology (NPIT) 2012 by December.
The policy sets multiple objective for development of IT sector, including increasing revenue of IT and IT-enabled services (ITes) industry from $100 billion to 300 billion by 2020 and expanding exports from $69 billion to $200 billion by 2020.
Under NPIT, government aims to create a pool of 10 million additional skilled manpower in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. It also aims to produce 3,000 PhDs in the field of ICTs every year by 2020.
