Yuma Energy Achieves 1M Monthly Battery Swaps, Expands In Hyderabad

Yuma Energy, a battery-as-a-service provider, has reached an achievement by exceeding 1 million monthly battery swaps in 10 cities. Operating over 175 stations and catering to over 100,000 EV users, the company aims to expand to 300 stations by the end of the year.

Yuma Energy currently serves over 100,000 electric two-wheeler riders with its battery-swapping services, executing approximately one million swaps each month. The company boasts an impressive 99% uptime for its swapping stations and an average battery swap duration of under one minute.

In an effort to broaden its market reach, Yuma Energy recently inaugurated its services in Hyderabad, Telangana, marking the company’s presence in a total of 10 cities throughout India.

Since commencing operations 18 months ago, Yuma Energy has successfully expanded into six major metropolitan areas, including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, and now Hyderabad. Additionally, the company has made its services available in four smaller cities: Indore, Kochi, Tirunelveli, and Pondicherry.

Muthu Subramanian, the General Manager and Managing Director of Yuma Energy, commented on the expansion, noting that the growth of the company is a clear indicator of the market’s acceptance of their services. He emphasized that Yuma Energy is committed to mitigating issues related to charging infrastructure and range anxiety to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in India.

Yuma Energy credits its robust operational performance to its sophisticated use of analytics and advanced technology. The company utilizes integrated systems and proprietary data models to efficiently manage its extensive battery swapping network.

In its quest to further extend its network, Yuma Energy has entered into strategic partnerships with several key public and private entities. These partners include the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Indian Railways, Adani Electricity, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, BSES Yamuna Power Limited, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited.

The electric vehicle (EV) sector for two-wheelers in India is witnessing rapid expansion, driven by increasing environmental consciousness, escalating fuel prices, and attractive government incentives. This sector is pivotal in India’s move toward more sustainable transportation solutions, especially considering that two-wheelers make up a significant fraction of the national vehicle fleet.

The market is currently experiencing a flurry of activity, with numerous established automotive brands and emerging startups introducing electric scooters and motorcycles. Most of these models are equipped with fixed batteries, which, while reducing initial costs and simplifying construction, are permanently installed and not designed for easy removal for charging purposes. This fixed battery model poses particular challenges in urban settings, where access to personal charging stations is limited. Owners often face the inconvenience of having to park their vehicles for extended periods near public charging facilities.
