As per reports, the state of Telangana expects to witness huge investments from the Electronic Manufacturing Service (EMS) major Wistron Corp in the coming year. The Information Technology Electronics and Communication (ITE&C) Department of Telangana said that the company has stipulated to establish a product manufacturing unit for consumer electronics and electrical vehicles.
The director of the electronics division of ITE&C, Sujai Karampuri stated: “They will engage in the manufacturing of products in the sense that mostly the consumer electronics and EV related products with some of the existing customers and probably new customers.” He further added that the details will be finalized in January 2023.
As this month started, the ITE&C team met Wistron executives and 32 supplier partners in Taipei and briefed them about the investment opportunities in Telangana. Saying that Wistron will set up manufacturing units for consumer electronics and EVs in Hyderabad, Karampuri added, “So basically, the idea is that it’s not only Wistron, but its suppliers also need to be convinced about India.”
As per its ICT Policy, Telangana aims to create about 350,000 jobs in the electronics and EV manufacturing sectors, while drawing US$30 billion of investment over the next five years.
Reports say that Bengaluru houses a Wistron production centre, where not only iPhones but also consumer electronics gadgets are produced, with local partners like Optiemus Infracom.
