Webasto Charging Systems, a branch of the Webasto Group, has announced plans to expand the availability of its TurboConnect charger starting in early 2024. Initially launched in March 2023 for select high-volume customers, the TurboConnect charger will soon be available to a wider market, aiming to make electric vehicle (EV) charging more secure, efficient, and widely accessible. In addition to TurboConnect, Webasto is introducing two new products to its portfolio: the Turbo DX 2 Charging Station and the Webasto Go Gen 2 High-Power Cordset, both expected to launch later in 2024. The specific markets for these products have not been disclosed yet. These three charging solutions were recently showcased at the LA Auto Show.
The TurboConnect charging station, suitable for both personal and commercial use, offers advanced connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Ethernet, adhering to high cybersecurity standards. It delivers a powerful 11.5kW (48A) output, providing about 44 miles / 70 kilometres of range per hour, making it ideal for various settings, including homes, fleets, workplaces, and destination charging sites.
This charging station integrates seamlessly with the Webasto ChargeConnect Web Portal and App, featuring reservation and QR code capabilities, and aligns perfectly with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for efficient EV charging management. The reservation system allows users to schedule charging during peak times, while the QR code function simplifies authentication.
The Turbo DX 2 Charging Station is a dynamic Level 2 charger with a 7.7kW output, offering a choice between plug-in or hardwired installation. It can add up to 30 miles / 48km of range per hour and is encased in durable aluminium housing with enhanced safety features, suitable for residential and public EV charging needs. It’s compatible with Smart Home Applications and supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, backed by the Webasto ChargeConnect platform.
The Webasto Go Gen 2 High-Power portable Level 2 EV charger boasts advanced safety features for optimal security and durability. This charger can deliver up to 9.6kW (40A) at 240V, adding approximately 37.5 miles / 60km of range per hour. “This product stands out in tough conditions, combining convenience and dependability,” noted Michael Schoenberger, VP of Research & Development at Webasto Charging Systems. He highlighted its compact and lightweight design, high-power capabilities, and suitability for diverse EV charging needs.
The Gen 2 Cordset, set for exclusive release to high-volume customers in 2024, offers customization options, including white labelling. All Webasto chargers are compatible with either the SAE J1772 or NACS coupler standards.
