The new Volvo FH Electric is set to go on sale in the latter half of 2025.
Next year, Volvo is set to introduce an enhanced long-range version of its FH Electric model, capable of travelling up to 600 kilometres on a single charge. This development is expected to revolutionize the capabilities of transport companies, enabling them to use electric trucks for interregional and long-haul routes. Drivers will be able to complete a full day’s work without the need for recharging. Scheduled for release in the latter half of 2025, this model is poised to be a significant addition to Volvo’s electric truck offerings.
Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating that the new model will significantly broaden their portfolio of electric trucks, catering to longer distances while maintaining zero exhaust emissions. This vehicle is particularly suited for transport companies that log high annual mileage and are committed to slashing their CO2 emissions.
Volvo Trucks stands as a global frontrunner in the electric heavy and medium-duty truck market, boasting a diverse lineup of eight battery-electric models. This range allows for the electrification of various sectors, including urban and regional distribution, construction, and waste management. With plans to extend into long-distance transport soon, Volvo has already delivered over 3,800 electric trucks to customers across 46 countries.
Highlighting the environmental importance, Roger Alm pointed out that the transport sector accounts for seven per cent of global carbon emissions. He noted that battery-electric trucks are crucial in reducing the impact of climate change. Besides environmental benefits, these trucks also enhance the working conditions for drivers by significantly reducing noise and vibration levels.
Volvo Trucks is actively pushing forward with its ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040. Their strategy involves a three-path technology approach, encompassing battery electric, fuel cell electric, and combustion engines powered by renewable fuels such as green hydrogen, biogas, or hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO). This comprehensive strategy underscores Volvo’s commitment to leading the transition towards fossil-free transport.
