VMware will use the investment on capital expenditure for rising sales operations and to fund research and development (R&D) in the country
VMware Inc, an arm of Dell Technologies and provider of cloud computing and platform virtualisation software and services, has announced that it is planning to invest $2 billion in India in the coming five years.
Pat Gelsinger, Chief Executive Officer, VMware, said that the investment will be used to expand offices in the cities of Pune and Bangalore and to increase workforce. In addition, the company will use the investment on capital expenditure for rising sales operations and to fund research and development (R&D) in the country.
The company has more than 5,000 people in India. The country is hub for the company and its innovation engine. The company will invest more than $2 billion over the next five years in India, he said.
VMware provides virtualisation technology which cuts down the need of creating or deploying physical infrastructure that is required for businesses. The company also works on technologies that can help in reducing the need of various electronic hardware such as desktop CPUs and mobile antennas, used by companies for technical operation.
India has a vast pool of engineering talent
Gelsinger further said that India is a major destination of VMware overall global investment strategy and providing exceptional engineering talent for the company’s R&D operations that are helping to push innovation across the entire product portfolio of the company.
Arun Parameswaran, Vice President & Managing Director, VMware India said that the VMware’s initiatives in India also support the policies of the Government, such as Digital India. The country has a vast pool of talented and creative people that can help drive the company’s innovation now and also in the future.
In the past 13 years, VMware has expanded its operations in India across R&D, business support services and sales and marketing, with over 5,000 employees currently supporting the company’s business locally as well as globally. The company’s primary sites in India are situated in Bangalore, Chennai and Pune.
