To further drive India’s electric vehicles industry, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation will launch around 24 electric vehicles (EVs) by December
The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has announced that it will launch around 24 electric vehicles (EVs) in the city to cut down its pollution level as well as the use of petrol and diesel. J V Rama Krishna, VMC Superintendent Engineer has informed that the supply of the vehicles will be taken care of by the Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL). The latter will be paid around Rs. 20,000 per EV on an EMI-basis.
The municipal body aims to introduce the EVs by December 2018. With the purpose of curb rising expenditure on fuel and to raise awareness among the public about protecting the environment from pollution, VMC has come up with this decision. The Superintendent added that around 10 EVs were ready for delivery and would be introduced in a few days.
Charging stations
It has been reported that the electric vehicles charging infrastructure will be initially set up in the premises of VMC with the plan of extension to the residences of VMC officials later. The EVs developed by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation are claimed to travel up to 120 kilometres and the DC and AC charging time are slated to be of one and a half hours and six hours respectively.
The government has been pushing for electric vehicles in India to bring down pollution levels and create an environment-friendly transport system. Major automakers have also joined in the effort to introduce their EV series in the country.
