Saturday, September 21, 2013: The rumoured Valve Steam Box, Linux-based gaming console, may finally be arriving on 23 September (Monday). The new gaming console is expected to be able to run a range of different PC games. Gabe Newell, Valve chief, had last week said that the company would disclose information about the console and now, there is a countdown ticker on a Valve landing page. The page indicates that the company could be planning to release the product on Monday afternoon.
While the page does not give out any specific information, it simple says the “Valve universe is expanding in 2014.” Further, the text on the page goes, “Last year, we shipped a software feature called Big Picture, a user-interface tailored for televisions and gamepads. This year we’ve been working on even more ways to connect the dots for customers who want Steam in the living-room. Soon, we’ll be adding you to our design process, so that you can help us shape the future of Steam.”
The pricing and availability of the console is yet to be disclosed by the company, but it is important to note that gaming PCs are comparatively more expensive than Xbox 360 and Playstation 4 like gaming consoles. This is because PCs have to accommodate a lot of powerful hardware options. Hence, Valve would have to work on the pricing so as to maximise sales.
