Saturday, December 27, 2014: Uttarakhand has also joined the league to promote solar power initiative, having a set target of 7MW power generation via solar rooftop projects for 2014-15 by Union Ministry of New Renewable Energy.
While in conversation with a leading nation daily, The Tribune, A K Tripathi, director, Union Ministry of New Renewable Energy said that the state stores immense potential for solar rooftop projects and further told about the 7MW of set target for the state for the current financial year.
He said that the Uttarakhand solar power policy is already set, and also that the state which is blessed with huge solar wealth, will soon take a leap in solar power rooftop projects. He even praised the efforts placed by the Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency for developing solar rooftop projects in the state.
Tripathi said that in order to meet the required solar energy demand, the ministry will identify 100 campuses across the country which abide to the consumption of solar power for their energy needs. He further stated that the Pant Nagar University in Uttarakhand will be considered as one such green campuses. He further stated about the country potential to generate over 124GW of electricity, solely by the use of solar rooftop projects
