US consul general in Kolkata Craig Hall said on Tuesday that the United States wants to grow defence coorporation with India and it do not want to see the country just as a customer.
He mentioned that the defence purchases by India has increased from zero to $15 billion in the last ten years.
He also stated that the US wants to build a mutual defence partnership and interoperability and there is need to produce defence equipment. He pointed out that the average tariff rates are high in India in comparison to US and asked the Indian government to reduce both tariff and non-tariff barriers(NTBs).
