The centre demonstrated the processing of 300-mm wafers, a first for private industry in India.
Applied Materials has inaugurated the ‘India Validation Center’ (IVC) at its Bangalore facility, marking a significant step in supporting the semiconductor ecosystem in India. The center was commissioned by the Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India, Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The IVC is built to the highest safety standards and is designed to facilitate early pilots, talent, and capability development for the upcoming India Collaborative Engineering Center. It will focus on validation, process engineering, lab management, and collaboration with academia and suppliers. The centre has added new capabilities for end-to-end design, characterisation, and qualification of semiconductor equipment, and demonstrated the processing of 300-mm wafers, a first for private industry in India.
Mr Vaishnaw emphasised the role of the envisioned semiconductor ecosystem in making India a developed nation. “The India Validation Centre is a testament to the dedication and effectiveness of our approach to build India’s resiliency in chip manufacturing and Applied Materials has been a trusted partner in enabling the Indian Semiconductor dream,” he said. He added that this centre will boost manufacturing capabilities in the sector.
The company aims to continue developing its capabilities in India to support customers and work with supply chain partners to strengthen the local ecosystem and help India’s semiconductor industry succeed.
Emphasising that it is an exciting time to be a part of semiconductor value chain in India, Satheesh Kuppurao, Vice President of Business Development and Country President of Applied Materials India said, “The commissioning of our India Validation Centre will enable us to coach, train, and demonstrate higher-level applications development work that is needed to support the growing semiconductor ecosystem in India.”
