January 15, 2015: Understanding India’s great solar power generation potential, the global body, United Nations’ officials met Indian urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu, to urge them to promote solar. With this officials want the government to educate people and empower them to user solar as it helps mitigate climate change and its consequences.
UN’s under secretary-general CEO of its Sustainable Energy for All initiative, Kandeh Yumkella, along with a team of experts are putting in efforts to promote use of solar panels and equipments and generation of solar power as it will reduce the weight to 20 per cent of the present load per square meter caused by conventional power generation equipments.
The officials also emphasised on the need to enhance power generation through collaborative efforts of all stakeholders.
To this the minister informed about country’s policy to achieve 100MW solar power generation harnessing the roof-tops being installed over buildings owned and managed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
Moreover, he also shared the initiatives put in place to replace halogen lamps with LED bulbs, thus saving energy in the long run.
