Any student who is having a degree in any engineering subject is permitted to apply for the program
In an effort to escalate the growth of the Indian semiconductor industry, the tribal affairs ministry formed an alliance with Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bengaluru to offer advanced technology training to 600 tribal students and basic training to 1500 students in semiconductor domain in the coming three years. The minister has informed this to the parliament in the previous session.
When BJP MP CM Ramesh has put a question in regards to the kinds of training, the tribal minister has mentioned that the project has been given by the ministry— Semiconductor Fabrication & Characterization Training for Students from Tribal Community — to the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Moreover, the minister also added that the institute has received the venture under the central’s scheme, dubbed Tribal Research Information, Education, Communication and Events (TRI-ECE).
The scheme notified in the FY 2023-24 has tasked the institute to provide 2,100 NSQF-certified level 6.0 and 6.5 training in semiconductor technology to all the tribal students. As per reports, any student who is having a degree in any engineering subject is permitted to apply for the program. Around six huge nano centers, including at the IISC, have been commenced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), providing top-notch training in semiconductor technology.
Minister Uikey told the media, “The degree programmes at these nano centers have representation from tribal communities, as per the reservation policies.”
