Thursday, October 17, 2013: The agitation over local body tax (LBT) may resume soon but with a twist. Reportedly, the traders in Maharashtra are planning to renew their agitation by circulating a signature campaign among all associations. This is being done with an aim to abolish the LBT Act from the state completely.
The parent body, Federation of Associations of Maharashtra (FAM), launched the “second phase” of its protest against the new tax in Maharashtra including Mumbai, reported Times of India. It has earlier concluded in a prolonged shutdown in June this year.
According to G J Parekh, general secretary, the federation will place booths at prominent marketplaces and the members of the associations will be responsible for attaining signatures in notebooks and hand them over to FAM.
