- Under the agreement, Total will install and operate up to 20,000 new public charging points
- The company will also study new solar power production opportunities in the Metropolitan Region Amsterdam
According to a report by the Economic Times, Total has announced that Metropolitan Region Amsterdam Electric (MRA-Electric) has awarded Europe’s largest concession contract for EV charging to Total. The report added that under the agreement, Total will install and operate up to 20,000 new public charging points. These points will be installed in the Netherlands, in the three provinces of North-Holland, Flevoland and Utrecht.
15 per cent of the current EV charging demand of the Netherlands
The company said in a statement that the new contract aims to address the fast-growing demand for public EV charging points in the Netherlands. This EV charging network will cover 3.2 million inhabitants. It will meet around 15 per cent of the current EV charging demand of the Netherlands.
The report added that Total Netherlands is already the main EV charging operator in the MRA-Electric region. It has over 4,500 public charging points operating and accessible to the public. As a part of the concession contract, the electricity supplied by Total Netherlands to the EV charging network will be fully sourced from renewable power and produced in the country.
Solar power production opportunities
The company has also pledged to gradually source part of it from the MRA region. This will allow EV drivers to charge their vehicles with locally-generated and sustainable energy. The company will also study new solar power production opportunities in the MRA region.
