Manufacturing Market Insider (MMI), a newsletter that specialises in the electronics manufacturing services (EMS) industry, has released its annual MMI Top 50 list of the world’s largest EMS providers. Sales of these top 50 totalled an estimated US$ 185.7 billion, which is itself a new record. About half of this revenue came from a single company, Hon Hai Precision Industry, also known as Foxconn. Due to Foxconn’s high growth rate, the overall revenues of the top 50 climbed by an estimated 36.5 per cent. However, when Foxconn’s results are excluded, the growth rate is nearly halved, dropping to 18.8 per cent.
MMI’s top 50 EMS providers were ranked based on their 2010 sales in US dollars. The top 10 are Foxconn, Flextronics, Jabil Circuit, Celestica, Sanmina-SCI, New Kinpo Group, Shenzhen Kaifa Technology, Benchmark Electronics, Plexus and Universal Scientific Industrial. In addition to ranking providers by 2010 sales, MMI Top 50 listings also included sales growth, previous ranks, number of employees, number of plants, facility space, space in low cost regions, number of SMT lines and customer data.
