The Murugappa Group-run TCI Clean Mobility subsidiary, TIVOLT Electric Vehicles, announced on Wednesday its collaboration with Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) to develop a comprehensive charging infrastructure for electric commercial vehicles. The partnership aims to utilise Tata Power Renewable Energy’s extensive expertise in establishing and managing EV charging facilities. These installations will be strategically positioned at TIVOLT dealerships, customer premises, and areas with high public footfall across the country.
The collaboration is envisioned as a crucial step in fostering EV adoption and enhancing the development of charging infrastructure. Saju Nair, CEO of TIVOLT Electric Vehicles, emphasized the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a major advancement in bolstering the EV ecosystem, particularly for electric trucks, by providing robust and accessible charging solutions.
Further expanding the sustainable scope of this initiative, TPREL plans to incorporate solar energy solutions at TIVOLT’s dealerships and customer locations. This integration is part of a broader strategy to establish a resilient and well-integrated EV ecosystem that supports the swift adoption of commercial electric vehicles, thus contributing to India’s energy transition and promoting a sustainable future.
Deepesh Nanda, CEO & MD of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, reiterated the potential of this robust ecosystem to hasten the adoption of commercial EVs, thereby advancing India’s goals for a sustainable energy future.
Previously, TPREL has made strides in facilitating easy access to charging for small electric commercial vehicles, having partnered with other original equipment manufacturers to set up over 200 customized EV charging stations in more than 100 cities, including major urban centres like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Pune, and Kochi.
TPREL has notably expanded its charging network under the EZ Charge brand, boasting over 100,000 home chargers and more than 6,500 public, semi-public, and fleet charging points. The company also operates over 1,100 bus charging stations across 530 cities and towns, underpinning its commitment to enhancing India’s charging infrastructure and supporting the widespread use of electric vehicles.
