Tesla’s chief executive officer Elon Musk said that Tesla will enter Indian market in 2021. He said this while replying to a Twitter query and said that Tesla will enter India “next year for sure”.
Last year, Musk had tweeted that high duties on vehicles imported as completely built units (CBUs) in India prevented tesla from entering the Indian market. Low per capita income and lack of infrastructure for EVs were also other factors.

He was asked by a Tesla fan club, Tesla Club India if he could give some idea about the company’s plan to enter the Indian market. There are also reports that Tesla has held discussions with the Karnataka government for possible investments for a research facility in Bengaluru. It is expected that there will be another meeting soon in which the government officials are likely to present a proposal to Tesla.
Reports have also said that Tesla has shown initial interest to invest in a research and innovation centre in Karnataka. These talks are at initial states.
