The telecom service providers will require some time for verifying the documents provided by the customers and the connection of the customer will remain working
Industry body Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has said that mobile service subscribers can their Aadhaar details erased from the records of telecom service providers by giving other valid documents for authentication.
Rajan S Mathews, Director General, COAI said that the telecom providers had met with the officials from Department of Telecom (DoT) regarding the issue. The telecom players have been clarified that mobile service customers who are willing to get their Aadhaar details deleted from the data base of their telecom operator should be permitted to do so by submitting another valid address and identity proof.
The telecom service providers will require some time for verifying the documents provided by the customers. However, the connection of the customer will remain working till the time verification of documents, Mathews said.
For getting the Aadhaar details deleted, customers have to give a call to their service operators and check about the point of sales or service from where they can put a request for their Aadhaar records deletion, he further said.
No threat of deactivation
The Government on Thursday has clarified that there is no threat of deactivation of mobile numbers that were issued using Aadhaar details, following the order passed by Supreme Court barring the use of Aadhaar number by private companies.
The DoT, in a joint statement with UIDAI, debunked the reports claiming that half of the mobile SIMs or over 50 crore customers in the country are facing deactivation of services. Mobile phone customers can seek a change at their choice of their Aadhaar-based verification done earlier with an alternate identity proof without any discontinuation of the mobile number.
The alternate process is in the works for verifying new SIM cards by way of a mobile app that will capture the photograph of the persons at the time buying the SIM, along with identity proof such as voter ID, Aadhaar card or passport.
