Thursday, June 19, 2014: Tata Power Solar, India’s largest specialized solar EPC player, has successfully commissioned the 50 MW solar photovoltaic project for NTPC, as part of their mandate to expand their renewable energy portfolio to 1,000 MW by 2017.
The 50MW flagship project in Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh, is the largest Indian solar project to use domestically manufactured solar modules. Built over 240 acres of land, the plant is expected to generate 78.66 million units (kWh) of energy per year and will help offset approximately 73,000 tonnes of CO2 in the first year. The power generated will be used to power around 90,000 households in a year.
“In this landmark project, Tata Power Solar as our key partner and EPC contractor has demonstrated their expertise in the solar business and have worked incessantly to deliver the project on time and in an efficient manner. We, at NTPC, are increasing our focus on renewables, in particular solar energy. With the commissioning of Rajgarh Solar Project, the solar power generation capacity in NTPC has reached 95 MW. ” said A.K.Jha, Director(Technical), NTPC.
Tata Power Solar managed the project end-to-end, from manufacturing and testing of the modules, to installing the anchor foundations and structures. Apart from a highly experienced team at Tata Power Solar, more than 2000 people from nearby villages were employed by them for civil, mechanical and structural works.
“This project bears testimony to Tata Power Solar’s 25 year strong lineage and the ability to bring together our strengths in manufacturing world-class solar modules and EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) capabilities. We are proud to have commissioned this project in record time and delivered to NTPC’s expectations.” said Ajay Goel, CEO, Tata Power Solar.
Tata Power Solar, India’s leading integrated solar solutions provider and specialized EPC player, operates 200 MW of solar module manufacturing in Bangalore and has designed and built more than 160 MW of grid connected projects to-date.
