In the latest electric vehicles (EV) segment, Tata Power and HPCL have associated to build EV charging stations across suitable locations in India
Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently to set up commercial-scale charging stations for Electric Vehicles at the HPCL retail outlets and other locations across India.
The two companies have agreed to collaborate in planning, developing and operating the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (e-cars, e-rickshaws, e-bikes, e-buses) at suitable locations across India. The entities also intend to explore areas of opportunities and collaboration in related fields like Renewable Energy.
Partnership goals
Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Power, said, “We are delighted to announce our partnership with HPCL. It is a significant move towards expanding our services to our customers beyond conventional boundaries.” He added that the company would play a crucial role in enabling a stronger penetration of electric vehicles in the country, thereby contributing to the country’s environment-friendly goal. Tata Power aims to accelerate EV charging infrastructure by associating with HPCL.
Rajnish Mehta, Executive Director, Corporate Strategy Planning and Business Development, HPCL believes that a robust network of charging stations is very critical for market acceptability of EVs. It will ensure last mile connectivity, thereby facilitating widespread adoption of EVs in the country.
He views the partnership to promote India’s e-mobility initiative. He further said, “Tata Power, with its focused approach towards sustainable clean energy and wider outreach across the power value chain, provides an excellent opportunity for HPCL.” The two firms aim to leverage on our vast marketing infrastructure network in the form of retail outlets and other locations for setting up of electric vehicle charging stations on pan India basis.
India aims for a pollution-free environment with the adoption of electric vehicles in India. This association is set to contribute to the cause by providing EV charging facilities.
