Revamping the educational framework with a specialised initiative designed exclusively for students, aiming to elevate their employability quotient, access superior placement prospects, and synchronise their learning with the dynamic requirements of the power sector.
Tata Power has taken a significant step towards empowering the youth of Odisha by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Odisha government’s Skill Development and Technical Education Department. This collaborative effort aims to provide industry-relevant training to students enrolled in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) located within the license area of the four Distribution Companies (Discoms) operated by Tata Power through a public-private partnership with the Government of Odisha. The initiative is aligned with the state government’s ‘Skilled in Odisha’ program, which seeks to enhance the employability of the youth.
The MoU signing ceremony took place in Bhubaneswar and witnessed the participation of key dignitaries, including Mr. Reghu G, IAS, Director of Technical Education and Training; Mr. Sanjay Banga, President of Transmission and Distribution at Tata Power; Smt. Usha Padhee, IAS, Principal Secretary of the department; Sri Gangadhar Sahoo, IAS, OSD cum Additional Secretary; Sri Tapan Kumar Satapathy, OAS (SAG), Additional Secretary to the government, along with other senior officials.
Under this collaboration, Tata Power intends to roll out an exclusive program designed to enhance the skills of students enrolled in 20 selected ITIs during the first year. These targeted programs will prepare students for the demands of the power sector, thereby improving their employability and opening up better placement opportunities. Mr. Budhish Kumar Behera, Head of Learning and Development at Odisha DISCOMs, has been appointed as the Nodal Officer for this program, ensuring its smooth implementation.
Speaking about the partnership, Mr. Sanjay Banga, President – T&D, Tata Power, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Tata Power is happy to collaborate with the Government of Odisha to provide local youth with the skills and opportunities necessary for fulfilling their aspirations and ambitions. We take pride in our role in making the ‘Skilled in Odisha’ program a great success by creating an enabling environment for the youth to thrive and excel in the power sector. We are excited to contribute to the growth of technical education in Odisha.”
To ensure the success of this initiative, Tata Power will design and share modules covering essential skills and knowledge required in the power sector. Experienced professionals from the company will conduct training sessions to provide practical insights and guidance to the students. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to visit Discom’s hands-on training center to gain field experience in executing daily work safely and efficiently. They will also visit the network control center, Smart Meter Lab, and 33/11 KV Sub-station to gain a deeper understanding of power sector equipment. This collaborative effort is a significant stride towards nurturing local talent and fostering industry-ready professionals, ultimately contributing to the growth of the power sector in the region.
