Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the deployment of fast and ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across India. The partnership aims to create a widespread and dependable intercity charging infrastructure.
Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Limited (TPEVCSL), part of the Tata Power Group and a leading provider of EV Charging solutions, along with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), have agreed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish fast and ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across India. This initiative will see the installation of over 500 EV charging points at various IOCL retail outlets, targeting major cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune, and Kochi, and key highways including the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Salem-Kochi Highway, Guntur-Chennai Highway, and the Golden Quadrilateral. This strategic alliance aims to build a vast and reliable intercity charging network, mitigating range anxiety for EV drivers on intercity routes.
Virendra Goyal, Head of Business Development-EV Charging at Tata Power, remarked that the collaboration with IOCL is a strategic step towards creating a strong EV charging infrastructure in India. Utilizing IOCL’s widespread network, Tata Power plans to establish fast and superfast charging points in various regions, enhancing accessibility and inclusivity for a sustainable electric mobility future.
Tata Power is dedicated to improving the EV user experience through technology integration and innovative solutions. EV users will benefit from a smooth charging experience using both the ‘Tata Power EZ Charge’ and ‘IndianOil e-Charge’ mobile apps, which allow them to locate and reserve chargers as needed.
On behalf of IOCL, Sh. Saumitra Shrivastava, Executive Director (Retail-N&E), expressed that IOCL aims to set up 10,000 EV Charging Stations by 2024, transforming their retail networks into comprehensive energy solution outlets. Currently, with over 6,000 EV charging stations, the company is focused on expanding further. The strategic partnership with Tata Power is critical in addressing the shift towards sustainable mobility. IOCL is prepared to face challenges and seize opportunities in this field, ensuring a smooth transition to eco-friendly mobility.
