The second largest lighting company, Surya Roshni has decided to enter into LED light manufacturing by setting up a laboratory and research centre, specifically aimed a boosting LED lighting market. “We are setting up the country’s first R&D centre & testing LAB for LEDs with an investment of Rs 150 million at Kashipur in Uttarakhand,” JP Agarwal, chairman and managing director, Surya Roshni said.
Surya is one of the largest producer of energy efficient CFL, tubelight and light fittings, luminaires, street lighting and high masts in the country. “LED (light emitting diode) bulbs are fast replacing the GLS bulbs (incandescent) and the total size of LED market is estimated at Rs 3 billion. We aim to achieve Rs 100 million turnover from LED luminaire segment,” Agarwal said.
Surya is equipped with the most advanced photometric laboratory, which houses high speed automatic mirror gonio-photometer from LMT Germany. This will fill up present big vacuum in accurate light measurement of LED in the country and hence will definitely act as catalyst for growth of LED lighting system. This, in turn will also help reduce generation of carbon, he said. Surya has existing manufacturing plants at Kashipur and Malanpur in Madhya Pradesh, where the complete range of lightings, such as GLS, FTLs, CFLs is being manufactured.
