Monday, November 03, 2014: Leading solar companies based in America, SunEdison and Azure Power, along with Indian company Welspun, are making their mark in Indian solar industry. Latest development reveals these three solar project leaders have bagged a 500MW tender in Karnataka.
The highest bid for 150MW has been won by SunEdison, followed by Azure Power (140MW) and Welspun (100MW). The contracts have been awarded for different projects. Azure Power CEO Inderpreet Wadhwa told Business Line that the new projects have helped them cross 500MW mark in the Indian market. The company also won a 100MW project under the National Solar Mission earlier this year.
Azure’s global competitor SunEdison has also 100MW capacity in India, This U.S. based company focuses on manufacturing polysilicon, solar cells and modules. Recently this company also entered an agreement with Rajasthan government for 5,000MW solar projects in the state. Other tender winners include Today Green Energy for 60MW, Bhoruka for 20MW and Asian Fab for 15MW. The tender for 500MW capacity solar projects was sought by 44 participants. The tender was held out by Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd (KREDL).
