Su-Kam, one of country’s leading power back-up providers, has completed the installation of solar street lights for the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency’s (TEDA) under a centralised scheme.
The solar-powered plant will be used for generating photo voltaic power of 500W capacity that will be used to light up around 10 streetlights. The power will be supplied through the distribution network of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (Tangedco), with provision for grid backup, according to TOI report.
This initiative from Su-Kam is the first-of-its-kind solar-based street light system in the country. The street light project covers seven districts in western Tamil Nadu and will light up 3,220 street lights with the help of 322,500W units, which have been designed for TEDA. Su-Kam will manage the setting up and overall maintenance of the plants for the duration of 5 years of the project, the company said in a statement.
All the districts will have remote monitoring units, which will be integrated to the centralized solar power plants to monitor the performance of lights spread across distant location, the company said.
Apart from street lights, powered by solar, the company has recently launched its solar-based home lighting system which will be offered to domestic as well as industry segment.
