Tuesday, October 01, 2013: Taking a step ahead in setting up of the ESDM Incubation Centre, the IT department of Odisha has asked the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) to work on a detailed project report (DPR) for setting up of Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) incubation facility. The incubation facility is a part of state’s Electronics Hardware Incubation Program, which will help facilitate the new hardware units.
According to a Business Standard report, an official commented on the development saying, “We have asked the STPI-Bhubaneswar to prepare and furnish a DPR for setting up of the incubation facility which is required for obtaining the government approval and concurrence of the finance department.” The incubation centre will also offer plug and play facilities, that will support setting up of the new IT companies. In order to attract investment in the ESDM sector, the state government has taken some major steps including the preparation of road map for the hardware industry in the state, characterisation lab for chip testing, etc.
The IT department has also involved the participation of India Electronics & Semiconductor Association (IESA) in the preparation of DPR for establishment of Electronic Manufacturing cluster at the proposed Info-valley. IESA will also prepare the roadmap for growth of ESDM industry for the state. In addition to this, STPI will also set up a characterisation lab in public-private partnership model at International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bhubaneswar in association with the state government.
