Sterling Tools has formed a partnership with Zhejiang Meishuo Electric to manufacture latching relays domestically, targeting a revenue of Rs. 200 crore by the fiscal year 2030. This collaboration furthers India’s self-reliance goals and diminishes dependency on energy sector imports.
Sterling Tools Limited, a prominent manufacturer of automotive fasteners in India, has ventured into the energy sector with its wholly owned subsidiary, Sterling Tech-Mobility Limited. The company has established a partnership with Zhejiang Meishuo Electric Technology Co., Ltd. from China to manufacture latching relays within India. These relays are designed for use in the energy sector, industrial grids, and various other applications and are critical in enhancing power efficiency and extending the lifespan of components in systems like smart meters and appliances. They enable the remote control of power connections to consumer premises with a latch mechanism that operates with minimal energy consumption.
The collaboration aims to generate revenue of Rs. 200 crore by FY30 and involves an initial investment of Rs. 20 crore by Sterling Tools to set up a production facility in Bengaluru. This facility will focus on the local production and assembly of latching relays. By manufacturing these components locally, Sterling Tools intends to support the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives, reduce import reliance, and provide access to advanced technology within India, fostering a self-reliant ecosystem in the industrial and consumer appliance sectors.
Anish Agarwal, Director of Sterling Tools Limited, emphasized that this partnership marks a significant development in localizing the production of latching relays and expands the company’s reach beyond its traditional automotive base. This move is expected to cater to the increasing domestic demand for high-tech solutions in the energy sector, driving innovation and efficiency improvements.
Latching relays are known for their efficiency, maintaining their state without power to the coil and consuming energy only during state changes, which helps in reducing operational costs.
Xiaohu Huang, Chairman of Zhejiang Meishuo Electric Technology Co., Ltd., expressed optimism about the growth prospects in India’s industrial and consumer markets. The partnership is poised to deliver high-quality solutions to meet the changing needs of these markets while enhancing India’s sustainability and self-reliance goals.
Through this initiative, Sterling Tools, via Sterling Tech-Mobility Limited, plans to broaden the local manufacturing base for electrical components, systems, and relays, strengthening India’s industrial supply chain and reducing dependency on imports. This strategy positions the partnership well to capitalize on emerging market opportunities and contribute to a sustainable future.
