The multifunctional STLA Frame platform, tailored for full-size trucks and SUVs, accommodates a variety of propulsion systems, including internal combustion, hybrid, hydrogen, battery electric (BEV), and range-extender electric vehicle (REEV) technologies. Initially, vehicles from the Ram and Jeep brands will adopt the STLA Frame.
Stellantis has introduced the STLA Frame platform, a BEV-native, multi-energy platform tailored for full-size body-on-frame pickup trucks and SUVs, targeting primarily the North American and selected global markets. This platform is designed to meet the high demands of full-size truck and SUV owners who prioritize power, durability, capability, practicality, and performance. The STLA Frame offers a class-leading range of up to 690 miles with the REEV and 500 miles with the BEV. It also boasts a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds and a payload rating of 2,700 pounds. The platform is equipped to handle water fording up to 24 inches, making it suitable for diverse and challenging environments.
The STLA Frame will serve as the foundation for Stellantis’ full-size pickup trucks, light commercial vehicles, and SUVs. Initially, it will feature a lineup of innovative propulsion systems including a full BEV system and a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) configuration, with the potential to incorporate internal combustion, hybrid, and hydrogen propulsion systems in the future.
The REEV system utilizes a combination of a battery, electric drive modules, an onboard generator, and an internal combustion engine. This system enables extended range under load without sacrificing performance, benefitting from the torque provided by the electric engines.
Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares highlighted the platform’s combination of unprecedented range with new levels of capability and performance, promising no-compromise solutions for potential electric vehicle buyers. The STLA Frame platform is also noted for its advanced, high-strength steel construction, which enhances durability and rigidity while reducing weight. Its aerodynamic design, including a full-length belly pan, maximises driving range.
The platform supports fast charging and bi-directional charging capabilities, allowing it to charge other EVs, power homes in emergencies, or feed electricity back to the grid. The STLA Frame is part of Stellantis’ broader strategy, which includes investing over €50 billion in electrification by 2030 to achieve a significant mix of BEV sales in Europe and the U.S. as part of their Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan.
