Now, when the employment generation capacity in big industries is gradually declining, the state Government has shifted its focus over the traditional sectors. The Odisha Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) has been asked to generate employment opportunities for 1,40,000 people. As per the decision taken at a meeting, presided over by secretary in MSME Department Panchanan Dash, KVIB has been asked to develop micro enterprises covering traditional artisans like weavers, potters, carpentry, cobblers, bee-keeping, spinners, blacksmith and laundry.
Also, the preference would be given to the manufacturer of agarbatti, papad, pickle, badi, readymade garments and phenol. They have also decided to set up one cluster in every district under the joint scheme by the KVIB and KVIC, Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI). They have even decided to evaluate the monthly progress of the scheme.
