Indian automotive technology firm Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd. recently announced its agreement with UK-based Equipmake to manufacture electric powertrains for cars, buses and commercial vehicles in India and other markets. As per the technology licencing agreement signed by both parties, Sona Comstar will get a licence from Equipmake for certain patented spoke motors and inverter technology in the power range of 100-440 kW. The Indian company plans to manufacture and sell EV powertrains, subsystems, and components for electric cars, buses, commercial vehicles and off-road vehicles by utilizing Equipmake’s patented technology. It is claimed to offer high power density and efficiency with high performance, making it ideal for such applications. The target market of these systems includes India and selected countries like Thailand. After the technology transfer, production is expected to start in 2025.
