Monday, February 17, 2014: The government’s initiatives to go green saw a first-of-its-kind power plant at the Gurgaon railway station. The solar power plant was inaugurated on 14 February, and it is funded by RITES, a PSU under the Railways.
VK Gupta, general manager of the Northern Railway cut the ribbon for the 25KW solar power plant. He said that such projects help tap the vast resources of renewable energy while maintaining a clean ambience at the station. The 25KW solar plant has been installed with the assistance of BHEL Electronics Division, Bangalore.
RITES chairman-cum-managing director, Rajeev Mehrotra said that the replication of the success of this project, on a larger scale, will help the organisation to achieve its targeted goal. The PSU aims to source 10 per cent of its energy requirement via clean energy, that it, options that utilise renewable energy sources to reduce carbon footprint of the Indian Railways.
