In a bid to strengthen country’s solar power ambitions, the state of Karnataka is all set to establish a solar power complex. The Indian government will be responsible for constructing a 500-MW solar power complex in the Chitradurga district of Karnataka state, instead of the Bijapur district, energy minister Shobha Karandlaje reportedly said.
The decision to relocate the planned solar park has primarily happened after the government has found a better location for the project in Chitradurga, the minister revealed. The move also came after the project was opposed by the residents of Bijapur district.
In September 2012, the government unveiled plans for the project that will include private sector investment as well. The solar park will be constructed in phases and initially will generate around 100 MW of capacity. It is a part of Karnataka’s plans to add 4,300 MW of renewable power capacity in the coming two years, which will be undertaken by investing Rs 230 billion.
