March 16, 2015: Narendra Modi’s chief ‘smart cities’ scheme will be set out next month onwards, said Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.
As published in The Hindu Businessline, Naidu said, “The Government is in an advanced stage of consultations, which will be over by the end of this month. Next month, we will roll out the much awaited scheme,” at the National Symposium on Sustainable Smart Cities.
The ministry had about 4 rounds of consultations with all the states, and held talks with 15 foreign countries like the US, Barcelona, Japan, and Singapore and more.
Naidu further added that necessary approvals for the scheme will be finished during this month and a firm action will begin thereafter.
The smart cities will be developed on a PPP model and it will incorporate measures like LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, green buildings, use of clean energy, metro rail, and more.
