Backed by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, this marks SJVN’s second solar venture to come online this month.
SJVN Limited has commissioned its 100 MW Raghanesda Solar Power Station in Banaskatha district, Gujarat. This brings its total installed capacity to 2,377 MW.
This solar power station is projected to produce 252 million units of energy in its inaugural year, totalling 5,805 million units over the next 25 years. The energy output will be given to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement, signed in January 2022.
The project was financially backed by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation under the GREEN program. Following the 50 MW Gujrai Solar Power Station in Uttar Pradesh, this marks SJVN’s second solar venture to come online this month.
The Raghanesda project was secured by SJVN Green Energy Limited, the renewable energy wing of SJVN at a tariff of Rs. 2.64 per unit through tariff based competitive bidding conducted by GUVNL. Its construction and development cost was estimated at ₹642 crores.
Smt. Geeta Kapur, Chairperson & Managing Director of SJVN, stated the company is committed to boost India’s green energy landscape and become a leading energy sector player. SJVN aims to reach an installed capacity of 25,000 MW by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040.
SJVN is a Mini Ratna, result of a collaboration between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh. With the government holding a majority stake, it was established in 1988. Since then, SJVN has diversified across various energy forms, including hydro, thermal, wind, solar, power trading, and transmission.
