Sanand Industrial Estate is emerging as a preferred destination for Tata Motors for manufacturing electric vehicles.
Situated some 35 kms ahead of Ahmedabad, Sanand Industrial Estate is emerging as a preferred destination for passenger and commercial vehicles manufacturer, Tata Motors, for manufacturing electric passenger vehicles.
Mayank Pareek, president of the Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, informed TNN that based on the performance at Tata’s Sanand plant, the company has decided to start their electric vehicle initiative from there. He further stated that Sanand is emerging as the EV capital of India and it is from this place where Tata is supplying vehicles to Energy Efficiency Service Limited (EESL).”
At present around 400 vehicles per day are being produced at the Sanand plant. The plant manufactures Nano, Tiago, Tiago AMT. An estimate of 60 per cent of the total passenger vehicles production of the company comes from its Sanand plant.
By the end of the financial year 2018-19, Tata Motors plans to expand its production capacity to 500 vehicles per day. The company officials also declared that the Sanand plant is set to cross the 5 lakh units production mark by October this year.
