According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung has regained its number one position in the smartphone market with 29% share in India during April-June 2018 quarter beating rival Xiaomi. In the October-December 2017, Samsung had fallen to second spot making Xiaomi the top player.Â
“The success of Samsung during the quarter can be attributed to its refreshed J series as it launched the most number of models as compared to any brand across multiple price points during the quarter,” said Karn Chauhan, Counterpoint Research analyst.Â
Samsung’s marketing campaigns and strong offline distribution for J series helped the company to gain its popularity and market in the market. First time ever, OnePlus led in the premium smartphone category, told Counterpoint. Moreover, Apple’s quarter came out to be slow due to its change in distribution strategy.Â
Counterpoint said,”apart from this, its domestic assembling is yet to pick up pace, which means the Cupertino giant is still relying on imports for its sale in India. Apple had 1% market share during the quarter, its lowest in the recent history.”
The over all smartphone market has returned to double digit growth (18%) year-on-year after a flat first quarter growth.Â
