Samsung Electronics had launched the Galaxy On5 and Galaxy On7 handsets in India last year as online-only offerings to compete with companies like Asus, Xiaomi and Lenovo, whose competitively-priced, highly-spec’d handsets started taking away significant chunks of Samsung’s market at the mid-range over the past couple of years.
After the success of those two devices, the company launched their ‘Pro’ versions, which came with increased RAM and internal storage. Recent leaks have indicated that the next-generation Galaxy On5 and Galaxy On7 devices may well be in the pipeline from the South Korean consumer electronics giant. However, the company has now added a third device to the mix, by officially announcing a premium mid-ranger called the Galaxy On8.
The company had already teased the smart phone over the weekend, but now that the wraps have been taken off of the all-new device, let’s take a closer look at its hardware specs. The Galaxy On8 will feature a 5.5-inch AMOLED display panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
The device will also come with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by way of a microSD card of up to 256GB in capacity. As for the processor, the smart phone will be powered by a 1.6GHz octa-core CPU, although further details about the chip haven’t yet been made public. The handset will sport a 3,300mAh battery and run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. There’s no word at the moment on whether it will receive Android Nougat at a later date.
Taking a look at the imaging options on the new smart phone, the device will have a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and an f/1.9 aperture, while the front-facing shooter will have a 5-megapixel sensor that should be good enough for selfies and video chats. The device will come with 4G LTE connectivity with support for VoLTE, which should make it fully compatible with the Reliance Jio network in India. Other connectivity options include 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS with GLONASS.
