As per reports, total microprocessor sales are forecasted to rise to $114.8 billion. Inspite of the pandemic, the sales went up by 16% in 2020, 13% in 2021 and is expected to rise at least a 12% in 2022 respectively. MPU shipments are expected to rise just 3% this year, while the revenues are expected to get a boost from an 8% increase in ASPs after average prices grew 7% last year and 10% in 2020.
The top five microprocessor suppliers remain unchanged from the past 2 years. Their combined revenue value is $88.3 billion accounting for 86.0% of the world’s total $102.7 billion MPU sales last year.
Apart from Intel and AMD, the remaining top five MPU suppliers sell mobile designs (primarily cellphone application processors), while the former sell x86 designs for embedded MPU applications. Geographically the top four are situated in the U.S. while the fifth is based in Taiwan.
