Rosatom, Russia’s atomic power corporation is planning to join the ‘Make in India’ initiative and the company is looking forward to assembly of fuel rods and control system components. India has been stressing on the fact that we need to grow our defence manufacturing base and this could be a big boost to defence manufacturing plans in the country.
Talking to India Abroad News Service from Moscow, Oleg A Grigoryev, vice-president of TVEL, Rosatom’s fuel company said that it was looking forward to assembling fuel rods in India.
Grigoryev said his company is open to the proposal for localising some production in India, but added that it will be feasible only when more nuclear reactors are commissioned.
He said that India has a strong desire to localise; and his company is open for such cooperation. Rosatom can localise the assembly. He further added that fuel rods can be assembled in India using the fuel pellets that they supply. The company has already developed and signed a road map with schedule and specification of what has to be done, but much depends on the number of units.
He also said that the company will localise products for India and they would like to make this an export hub for other countries.
