Electronics B2B has confirmed news that a new OSAT/ATMP is being set up in southern India. The announcement of the same will be made in about two weeks from now.
This upcoming OSAT/ATMP will be a joint venture between an Indian and an Korean organisation. Critical for India to realise its semiconductor plans in the long run, the upcoming unit will offer services including package design, bumping, assembly, and testing. Notably, OSAT/ ATMP process contributes about 30-40% of the value of an IC, depending on the packaging and leads.
Interestingly, this is the third such major announcement in the Semiconductor space in India. The most recent one was Kaynes, while the first to break ground was CDIL. Tata is also rumoured to be working on setting an OSAT in India.

It is also to be noted here that CDIL, via the new OSAT/ATMP, is focusing on Silicon Carbide while Kaynes had earlier told Electronics B2B that the first phase of the investment and building of the OSAT has begun for it and the same will be ready by April 2024. In total, the company is looking to deploy 12 OSAT lines in India.
Power devices for the automotive vertical, health, industrial, consumer electronics, and IoT, have been the limelight of all such announcements so far.
Raja Manickam, in an recent interaction with us, had said that the demand for semiconductors made in India will be on a sharp rise, and like Chinese favour Chinese, India companies will look to source more from Indian semiconductor OSATs/ATMPs.
