Tuesday, December 10, 2013: Odisha’s state energy department has planned to set up a 50 MW solar power project. The project will be implemented at Manmunda in Boudh district with an investment of around Rs 4000 million. This power plant will be established by Green Energy Development Corporation of Odisha Ltd (GEDCOL).
This was decided by a high level meeting chaired by chief secretary, Jugal Kishare Mohapatra. Energy secretary, Pradeep Kumar Jena clearly laid out the broad features of the project.
It is noteworthy to add that Solar Energy Corporation of India has proposed to set up solar projects of 750 MW in different parts of the country and GEDCOL will bid for 50 MW project to be set up in Odisha at the proposed site, Business Standard reported.
Odisha’s Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) will be required to offer land to GEDCOL for the project. As part of the meeting, it was also decided that the generated power will be purchased by GRIDCO as per renewable power obligation.
“It has been in principle decided that the project will be implemented on PPP mode,” read an official release.
