Investing $240 billion, RRP Electronics plans to build an outsourced semiconductor facility in Maharashtra, partnering with HMT Zurich for chip supply, reducing reliance on imported chips by 25%.
RRP Electronics Ltd. has received approval from the Government of Maharashtra for a groundbreaking $240 billion investment in a multi-phase semiconductor project.
The project’s initial phase involves the construction of a 40,000-square-foot Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Testing (OSAT) facility at Mahape, Maharashtra. The OSAT facility is set to be operational from September 16, 2024. Subsequently, RRP Electronics will further expand its operations with additional production lines at a new plant in MIDC, Taloja, within the next two years, providing a clear roadmap for the project’s development.
The company has also partnered with leading design firm HMT Zurich to guide the production of semiconductors at this new facility.
Mr. Rajendra Chodankar, Chairman of RRP Electronics Limited, said that the OSAT facility is fully automated and would be the first to have machinery from the major semiconductor hubs worldwide.
Initially, the company will supply semiconductor chips to partner HMT Zurich. He also highlighted that the company is in talks with other major players.
Moreover, it is projected to reduce India’s reliance on imported semiconductor chips from Taiwan and South Korea by at least 25%, marking a significant stride in the country’s semiconductor manufacturing sector.
The establishment of this OSAT facility in Maharashtra will create 4,000 jobs, significantly contributing to the state’s economic development and technological progress.
